Yet here I was, sending people to their deaths without touching a single item. Was I putting someone out of a job? In the best possible way, the Hitman series is ridiculous. Its protagonist, Agent 47, is the single most conspicuous person in any crowd.

Although it was the fourth game in the Hitman series, it was my first encounter with the franchise. While I wait for that, I saw no harm whatsoever in revisiting and reviewing my second-favorite game in the franchise, second only to the title. Considering the game was released in , however, I feel somewhat compelled to mention that the Steam version is understandably lacking some features that would probably improve gameplay quality, but such features were likely impractical or impossible to implement at the time.

For example, to the best of my knowledge, the game currently lacks Steam Cloud save-syncing functionality, which I consider to be both a curse and a blessing for various reasons. Additionally, I would have preferred to use my Xbox controller while playing, but unfortunately, the game also lacks any form of controller support.

Because of this, I had little choice but to stick with the standard keyboard and mouse control scheme, which brings me to my final very minor gripe with the PC port of Blood Money. Fortunately, most aspects of the control scheme can be changed to suit your personal preferred play style.

As I mentioned in the first paragraph of this review, Blood Money was my first encounter with Hitman as a series. The more notoriety you have, the easier it becomes for NPCs namely armed guards to recognize you.

Obviously, as an assassin, you want to avoid being recognized while you go about your work, if for no other reason than to avoid being fatally shot. Thankfully, the game allows you to rid yourself of any notoriety you accumulate, for a price. Agent 47 has several new tricks up his sleeves to help him keep from accumulating any notoriety in the first place, though. For example, in previous Hitman games, whenever 47 incapacitated or killed an NPC, he would have to leave their body in as secluded a location as possible and essentially hope that no one found the body before he left the mission.

A useful trick that I never thought of until my fourth playthrough of the game is the fact that when holding an NPC as a human shield, 47 can use his weapon to knock the NPC unconscious.

This allows 47 to incapacitate or eliminate targets without direct confrontation on his part. In traditional Hitman fashion, Blood Money offers players the ability to go about completing their missions however they so choose.

Obviously, the game rewards you for completing missions as stealthily as possible. You can replay missions to either learn new, more efficient ways of eliminating your targets or to go in with as many upgrades as you can afford and proceed to expose every unfortunate enemy NPC in your vicinity to a hail of bullets just for fun. This equipment consists of your fiber wire, sedative and poison syringes, binoculars, the aforementioned upgrade-able lockpick, painkillers if you chose to purchase them, a remotely-detonated mine or two, if you purchased that particular upgrade and its detonator, as well as infinite coins which can be thrown to distract NPCs.

Instead of immediately falling to his doom, he floated in mid-air long enough to stand up, question me, and then take a few steps away from me before then tumbling downward. Considering the high regard in which I hold Blood Money, I would be doing the game a massive disservice if I were to go without discussing two of my favorite aspects of it: its plot and its soundtrack.

After completing this particular assignment, 47 finds a former CIA operative, Agent Smith, hiding in said vehicle. Smith proceeds to explain that the Franchise has sent its best assassin to eliminate the President of the United States.

The Franchise wants the President dead because he intends to legalize the cloning procedure that initially created If the President were to do this, it would ruin the plans of both the Franchise and their controllers, a secretive organization aiming to take control of the U.

With the President out of the way, this organization would install one of their puppets, Vice President Daniel Morris, as President. Overall, there are far too many reasons why I hold Blood Money in such high regard to detail them all in the confines of this review. I admit that nostalgia is definitely a factor, but my love for the game goes far beyond that. Your email address will not be published. Yes, add me to your mailing list. How do I get past (flatline)?

War games have consistently failed at making me feel like an invader. Their stories, almost always, involve Western troops on top secret missions behind enemy lines—myself and my AI squad mates are supposed to be interlopers, constantly vulnerable amid a foreign, hostile environment. And yet, we master our surroundings, and our enemies within them, entirely. On-screen objective markers tell us where to go. An arsenal of science-fiction weaponry ensures our safety.

Not because I'd just killed a person, but because The Agency, my bar-coded assassin's employers, had gone to the trouble of providing me with a wealth of lethal equipment. Yet here I was, sending people to their deaths without touching a single item.

Like the first three games, levels typically require the player to assassinate one or more targets using a mixture of force, stealth, disguise, and puzzle-like manipulation of objects in the level. Timing note: The time is calculated by manually timing the first and last stages and using the in-game times for the other stages. Individual-levels run on Pro difficulty in :. Flatline is the fourth mission in Hitman: Blood Money. Agent 47 must rescue Agent Smith from captivity at the Pine Cone Rehabilitation Center , utilising an experimental serum that mimics the appearance of death in order to smuggle him out. The primary target is randomly selected each time the mission is played, although the other two men become optional "low-level contracts" during the mission and offer an increased payment if they are eliminated. Diana asks 47 if his gunshot wound from the incident in Paris has healed, before giving him his next assignment. A client wants to eliminate a mobster checked into the Pine Cone Rehabilitation Center who plans to turn state's witness. The client was uncertain exactly who the potential witness may be, as three different mobsters are currently staying at the facility. Agent Smith was sent undercover to the facility to identify the target, but did not report back. Evidently Smith's cover was blown, as Mark Parchezzi III posed as a doctor and confined Smith the mental ward, where the staff performed cruel and sadistic treatments on him. While at the facility, 47 also managed to eliminate his target, and possibly the two other men as well. It's good to have you back,

The power of silence in Hitman: Blood Money

The flow to this mission is a little unique, you have a specific stationary objective you need to get to before you really get cracking on the mission itself. There are a few ways in and a few ways to kill the three targets. The therapist clothes are also nice if you can quietly take out a therapist or steal them from a side room. There are three easy ways into the clinic.

For those who want to discuss marketing and sales related factors from outside the game, there is a thread here:. Are you hitman player at all?

Things start to get a little bit out of the ordinary in this stage. A CIA agent is being held in an alcohol treatment facility. The only way to leave the facility is sober or in a body bag. Since he is being kept drugged, you'll have to fake his death.

First you have to get patient's robes. In order to do that, you can sedate a sole patient who's standing near the recycle bins, then drop his body into one of them. It's not easy, as the area is being watched by the guards. Do it when none of them is watching. HINT: There's another, easier way to get the robes.
